This painting is inspired by the words of one of Paramhansa Yogananda’s chants.

Here Paramhansa Yogananda meditates directing his awareness toward a mountain peak illuminated by the full moon. Mountains have long been sacred to yogis.

Paramhansa Yogananda,s poem God’s Boatman inspired this painting (from a photo of him in 1929 on Lake Chapala in Mexico.)

This was painted for a friend who was undergoing a severe test. It shows Paramhansa Yogananda waiting patiently on the other side or the bridge of trials.

The title of this painting comes from the words of one of Paramhansa Yogananda’s chants, “I am the bubble, make me the sea.” 

In this painting, Paramhansa Yogananda gazes at the distant mountains, which represent the goal of uplifted consciousness and the aspiration to achieve it.
